Guided Tours in Ostuni
Itinerary in the 'White City'
Private Tour or Organized Group Tours
Tour Description
An itinerary through the historic center of Ostuni, the ‘White City,’ named for its whitewashed houses. The city enjoys an exceptional panoramic position, perched on the last spurs of the Murgia, and is visible from afar, standing out vividly against the green of the olive trees.
Within the Aragonese walls (15th century) lies the ancient village, characterized by white houses built directly on the rock, steep staircases, and narrow alleys leading to the top of the hill. At the highest point, once the site of a castle, stands the Cathedral, distinguished by its unique sinuous façade and grandiose rose window. The square in front of the Cathedral hosts the Seminary and the Bishop’s Palace, connected by a charming arch.
Walking along Via Cattedrale, the city’s main street, visitors will encounter elegant palaces and quaint shops offering local crafts. A must-see stop on an Ostuni tour is Piazza Libertà, framed by the Church of San Francesco d’Assisi, the adjoining former friars’ convent, and the monumental Column of Sant’Oronzo.
