TOUR DESCRIPTION
A journey to discover Pompeii, the most important archaeological site in the Roman world.
The city is a treasure trove that never ceases to amaze its visitors and continues to yield fragments of life from 2000 years ago.
The volcanic ash and lapilli from the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD buried the city, and for centuries, its name and traces were lost. The discovery of Pompeii is attributed to the excavations of 1748, commissioned by Charles III of Bourbon, but its identification occurred only in 1763 with the discovery of an inscription that read 'Res Publica Pompeianorum' (CILX, 1018). Pompeii had finally been found!
Pompeii, with an excavated area of 44 hectares, provides a complete picture of an ancient Roman city. The private buildings occupy a large part of the city, allowing us to know the development of the 'Roman house' and its magnificent decorations: frescoes with vibrant colors (like a particular shade of red called 'Pompeian red') and mosaics that constituted precious stone carpets.
The itinerary reaches the public buildings such as the amphitheater, theaters, thermal baths, and the grandiose Forum, the place where the public, commercial, religious, and political life of the city took place, offering its visitors an exciting view of Vesuvius.
